Bhutan, The Wonderland Tour Itinerary
Day 01: Arrive Paro - Thimphu
On arrival at Paro International Airport, Your escort from Boonserm Tours, who will accompany you throughout the trip, will be waiting for you. From the air port, then drive to Thimphu the capital city of Bhutan. The road leads through the Paro valley to the confluence of Paro and Thimphu rivers at chuzom ( confluence ). Three differrent style of chortens adorn the confluence. A short way beyond, on the left, is Tschogang Lhakhang, the temple of the hill of excellent horse. It is private temple, built in 15th century, as the result of visitation from Balaha, the excellent horse, a mani festation of Chenrezig, the compassionate Buddha. After the narrow, rock lined section of the road opens up as Thimphu approaches, Simtokha Dzong lies enroute. Simtokha means the place of profound tantric teaching', this dzong now houses a school for the study of the Dzongkha language. On arrival in Thimphu, check into the hotel. |
Day02: Thimphu
Today's full day of sightseeing in Thimphu valley includes, visit to ; National Library ; it holds a vast collection of ancient Buddhist texts, manuscripts, modern academic books and printing blocks for prayer flags. Painting School ; famous for traditional thangkha paintings. Tradtional Medicine Institute ; the rich herbal medicines abundant in Kingdom is prepared here. The institute also imparts the art of herbal medicines to would be practioners. Memorial Chorten ; the beautiful stupa built in the memory of Bhutan's third King. The paintings and statues inside the monument provide a deep insight into Buddhist philosophy. Tashichhodozng ; the beautiful medeival fortress/monastery which houses Secretariat building, King's Throne room and other government's offices. It is also the summer residence of Chief Abbot. Visit Choki Handicrafts & Emporium ; it displays wide assortment of beautifully handwoven and crafted products. Overnight Thimphu.

Day 03: Thimphu - Punakha
After breakfast proceed to Punakha. About 45 min from Thimphu, lies Dochula pass (3,100m), offering visitors their first glimpse of the eastern Himalayan range. A low lying sub tropical valley, Punakha served as the capital of Bhutan untill 1955 and still it is home of Chief Abbot in winter months. Punakha Dzong, built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal has played prominent role in civil and religious life of the Kingdom. Destroyed four times by fire and an earthquake in 1897, the Dzong has been now fully restored in its original splendour.

Day 04: Punakha - Wangdue - Gangtey / Phobjikha
After breakfast drive to Gangtey via Wangdiphodrang. Visit remarkable Wangdi Dzong and a local village house offering good insight into lifestyle of people. Further ahead pass through dense forests and Oak,Rhododendron trees, reaching at Gangtey (Phobjikha).
Evening take a stroll around Gangtey village and visit Gangtey Gompa, the only Nyingmapa monastery in the Kingdom. Overnight Gantey. |
Day 05 : Gangtey / Phobjikha - Wangdue - Thimphu
Morning explore Phobjikha valley which is famous for Black Necked Cranes. These cranes migrate from Central Asiatic Plateau to escape its harsh winters. Drive to Thimphu via Wangdiphodrang. Overnight Thimphu. |
Day 06: Thimphu - Paro
Morning proceed for Paro, enroute visit Simtokha Dzong. After lunch visit Kyichu Lhakhang, Ta-Dzong (National Museum), Rinpung Dzong and Paro's market.

Day 07: Paro
After breakfast, visit Drukgyel Dzong and take full day excursion to view the Taktsang (Tiger's Nest) monastery.

Day 08: Depart Paro
After early breakfast in the hotel drive to the airport for flight to onward destination.
